Sarkisian’s Policies Gave Turkey Foothold in Caucasus, Says ARF Deputy

1021ardoushshahbazian (Small)YEREVAN (—Armenian President Serzh Sarkisian’s defeatist policy has given Turkey an entry point into the South Caucuses to interfere in its internal affairs, a member of the Armenian Revolutionary Federation’s parliamentary told reports on Wednesday.

According Shahbazyan, Armenian had, for some time, successfully blocked Turkey from gaining a foothold in the Nagorno-Karabakh peace talks and becoming a de facto mediator of conflicts in the South Caucasus.

“But within a year Turkey has become the main actor in Caucasian and Karabakh issues because of Armenia’s failing policy,” Shahbazyan said, adding that “today Ankara is regularly consulted by Medvedev and Obama.”

Despite this reality, the Armenian authorities continue to hope that Turkey will not see this process through and thus save Armenia from this diplomatic catastrophe, Shahbazyan said, noting that Turkey will push this process forward until the Karabakh issue is resolved in its favor.

“Turkey clearly says so and I have no ground for thinking otherwise,” he added.
