Updated ‘Madrid’ Principles to Include Karabakh in Talks

Presidents of Armenia, Azerbaijan and Russia meet in Sochi

SOCHI, Russia (Combined Sources)—The presidents of Armenia and Azerbaijan agreed on a preamble to the so-called “Madrid Principles” for the resolution of the Karabakh conflict, which calls for the imperative participation of the Nagorno Karabakh Republic in the talks and sets nations’ right to self-determination as a priority for conflict resolution, said sources with knowledge of the document, reported news.am.

The announcement of the agreement was made by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov after Armenian President Serzh Sarkisian and his Russian and Azeri counterparts Dmitry Medvedev and Ilham Aliyev met in a ski resort near the Black Sea city of Sochi.

The meeting, which began with the participation of the three foreign ministers, continued with the three presidents meeting in private. None of the three presidents made public statements after more than two hours of negotiations, reported Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty.

“The conversation was useful,” Lavrov told journalists. “The participants discussed the concrete proposals that were presented by the co-chairs. There is a common understanding — and everybody confirmed that — on the document’s preamble.”

“Today the main result was that although some parts of the document are not agreed on by the parties, the parties will prepare their own concrete ideas and formulations that would be added to the text. We are confident that this will help the co-chairs in their further work,” he said.

Lavrov refused to elaborate on the understandings and remaining sticking points. “This is a subject of negotiations between the parties,” he explained. Aliyev and Sarkisian were due to hold more talks in the presence of the French, Russian and US Minsk Group co-chairs later on Friday.

Too uncertain – “Combined Sources”, “sources with knowledge of the document”. None take responsibility. So, what is to comment?
I remember lavrov saying that all three principle are equally ranked. So, what about timing? Timing defines dynamics, and dynamics sets outcome: security, stabilty, prosperity.

RUSSIAN GOVERNMENT “MUST” OPEN THE DOCUMENTS WHERE IT PROVES THAT STALIN ILLEGALLY GAVE ARTSAKH AND NAKHITCHEVAN TO AZERBAIJAN.  THAT IS AZERBAIJAN MUST RETURN THE REMAINING ARTSAKH TERRITORY BACK TO ARTSAKH GOVERNMENT  &  NAKHITCHEVAN TO ARMENIAN GOVERNMENT.
THOSE DOCUMENTS WILL OPEN UP CAN OF WORMS TO TURKEY TOO… WHERE STALIN ILLEGALY GAVE AWAY ERZOUROUM REGIONS.

Sarkisian has sold us out. Basicaly, the preeamble calls for relinguishing 5 Armenian liberated provinces and the remaining 2 in a time period.

Is this why our sons died for? To liberate our territories, and then to give them back to the Mongolians and that the oligarch stooges make more money?

These people have betrayed Antranig Ozanian and Monte. May the deniars and the occupiers of Armenian lands all go to Jahenem and quickly.

Yeah this article is weird.  I haven’t read anywhere else that Kharabagh is to be included in the talks — this is a first.

But if they are, that’s great — they shouldn’t have even been taken out of the talks.

Artsakh must and should be an equal part in all negotiations.
I ask all Armenians all over the world, including Armenia…not to return one inch of your lands.
Monumental mistake, which will lead to the downfall of Armenia as we know of.
If Armenia gets any weaker, it will spell disaster to our cause of having a Kurdistan which is free of turkish occupation.
Don’t trust one word coming from the mouth of a Turk.

    To Armenians:
No matter how much they update the Madrid Principles, they all are stacked high and biased against the smaller and weaker Armenia.
Not one single inch of your land should go to the turk.
You fall into this trap and make the mistake, you’ll forever regret your ill fated decisions.
DO NOT TRUST turks. THE SAME WAY THEY TURNED ON YOU, THEY TURNED ON US AFTER WWI, AND OUT OF THE BLUE, WE BECAME THEIR NEW ENEMY. DAMNED turks.

Lets be realistic, Armenia can’t hope for a peaceful resolution and expect not to concede some territories in return. The benefits of a resolution that include NKR in the talks is a win for us.

Wow some people really lack a basic understanding of diplomacy, not to mention politics in general.  Do you people not see how this declaration is an Armenian diplomatic victory, azeribajian has put its name to a document that sets a nations’ right to self-determination as a priority for conflict resolution!  The azeri’s are in a corner and Russia has them by the neck.  Of course some people will always find things to complain about.

Ilham Aliyev, what a joke. He thought he was going to hand over  the Armenian territories to Turkey for some delusional grand Mongolian/Turkick alliance.

That all ended when he stared in the Borat movie in his florecent swim suit. If the liberated Armenian territories are going to be given to that scum, bottom feeder, then there is going to be a whole lot of more practical jokes, like exploding cigars, IEDs [he should ask the Americans how effective they are] etc….

May the occupiers and deniars all go to Jahenem and quickly to visit their ancestors.

If Sarkisian betrays us with Artsakh then the whole of Armenia and Artsakh must rise against him; he better not give an inch of land to the azeri vermin pogroms.

Artsakh must be part of the negotiating table about the faith of her nation and her self-determination.

Those lands will never be given back, if they are given back, those responsible will be held accountable and will have to answer for it one way or another. There are Armenians both in Armenia and Asrtakh as well as the Diaspora that will make sure of this.

All 7 seven provinces belong to Armenians living there and rightfully so considering that during the time of soviet collapse, the majority of the population by more than 90% was Armenian living on that soil. In 1920s when that land was illegitimately “gifted” to the Azeris, it was clearly agreed upon that should the Soviet Union collapse, the land would go to whoever had majority demographic living on the land, which turned out to be Armenians by far.

On top of that, after Azeri aggression, Armenians killed and bled for that land, if they want it back, let them come and bleed for it. No one is giving anything back, ever. Cyprus is a true illegitimate occupation and Turkey has yet to relinquish any land to Greece, our Artzakh currently has the rightful owners and its indigenous people, the Armenians, living on it and we are expected to give it away? Not in a thousand years, or ever.

If Armenia was in Jahenem, why would the Mongolians work so hard to try to mend fences and try to open the gates?

Go back to your goat loving brothers and ancestors. And, when I say “goat”, I mean it in the Turkish sense.

If you don’t know how to get there, I will start by ringing the Jahenem bells for you and take you there. And, when I say “goat”, I mean it in the Turkish sense.

And, no, you cannot belly ache and complain to an Armenian publication that my statements offend your goat loving Turkishness.

I watched how a ragtag army of 900-2,000 Armenians beat your 20,000 regular soldiers, 5,000 Afghan hired  terrorists and 3,000 hired Chechens and made you run for your lives.
Don’t wish too much fire for the Armenians, this is not 1915, where you went and butchered 2-3 million innocent and defenseless women and children. Be smart. Next they will liberate their ancestral city of Kantsag.

Advise from a Kurd watching closely the situation in the Caucasus.
