ANKARA (Press TV)–Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said he will take legal actions to abolish a controversial secret protocol that authorizes unilateral military intervention in internal security issues.
“This is a protocol, not a law. We will make legal changes if necessary,” Erdogan said.
Erdogan promised to “abolish the protocol” which allows military operations in response to internal threats without the consent of local officials.
The Protocol on Cooperation for Security and Public Order (EMASYA) was enacted by the government in 1997.
“No such thing as the EMASYA protocol can exist. We are taking necessary steps to abolish it”, said the premier.
The protocol has emerged as a major issue in Turkey after an alleged military coup plan was reveled by the Turkish Taraf Newspaper last year. Taraf published what it described as a document drafted in April by a navy colonel on blocking efforts by Erdogan’s ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) from “destroying Turkey’s secular order and replacing it with an Islamist state.”
Turkish military chief, Gen. Ilker Basburg, however, dismissed the allegations, saying as far as the military investigators were concerned the document was fake.
Meanwhile, Erdogan has also denounced a military hospital in Ankara for banning headscarves, deploring a recent incident in which hospital officials refused entry into the hospital to his wife because she wore the Islamic headscarf.
Not easy in Turkey because of Zionist domains.
