Reaffirms Commitment to a Truthful and Just Resolution of all of Turkey’s Genocidal Crimes
WASHINGTON–The Armenian National Committee of America (ANCA) joined Wednesday with Pontian Greeks – and all Hellenes, Assyrians, Syriacs, and other communities representing the victims of Turkey’s genocidal campaign against its Christian minorities – in commemorating May 19th, the international day of remembrance for the genocide initiated by the Ottoman Empire and continued by Kemalist Turkey against the historic Greek population of Pontus along the southeastern coast of the Black Sea.
“We join with all our brothers and sisters – in the Hellenic, Assyrian, Chaldean, Syriac, and other Christian communities subjected to genocide under Ottoman and Turkish rule – in solemnly marking the anniversary of the Pontian Genocide – a genocide that remains unrecognized by its perpetrator and unpunished by the international community,” said Aram Hamparian, Executive Director of the ANCA. “In commemorating this date, we reaffirm our determination to work in concert with all the victims of Turkey’s genocidal campaigns to secure full recognition and justice for these crimes.”
The Ottoman Empire, under the cover of World War I, undertook a systematic and deliberate effort to eliminate its minority Christian populations. This genocidal campaign resulted in the death and deportation of well over 2,000,000 Armenians, Assyrians, Chaldeans, Syriacs, and Greeks.
The Pontian Genocide has been formally acknowledged by Greece and Cyprus and, within the United States, by the states of New York, New Jersey, Florida, South Carolina, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, and Illinois, among others.

Dear Mr. Hamparian,
I applaud for the above mentioned campaign; but the numbers annihilated that you mentioned are too low. We know that from 1915 through 1923 during the Armenian Genocide, more than 1.5 Million Armenians were annihilated. At least 800,000 Greeks and 800,000 Assyrians were also annihilated; as well as Chaldeans and Syriacs. Therefore the numbers are way over 3.6 Million altogether. Thank you.
Seervart
Please take note that there is a correction on my above comment. The campaign was by Turkey against the Genocide of all their Christian minoritiy citizens from 1915-1923.
However, I applaud for your remembrance of your marking the anniversary of Pontian Genocide committed by the Turkish government from 1915 through 1923.
i dont know what other evidance the obama regime wants lots of places recognoz itand they agree something has happened but from year to year they play football i think the americans also have a hand in this because they are the ones delaying dragging themselves
Its about time forming the Pontian Genocide Group,it included Hellenic,Assyrian,Chaldean, Syriac peoples, but only the Armenians made it a constant issue.Only in large numbers are you going to to make YELLOW STAIN turkey come forth with the TRUTH;they have been lying long too long. Why are they called YELLOW STAIN turkey. In WW1 they were part of the Axis vizGermany/Austria.They were soundly beaten beaten,by an EQUAL FORCE of Allies.then they TURNED YELLOW,GROVELED,and joined the Allies.
As grimey and filthey as politics is,the fact remains,Turkey is needed by the west.Even the Jews caved in,over a couch.

Zareh you see, the Hellens lost a great deal yes, but not like us. We lost everything by being almost completely annihilated and pushed out of our millenia anscestral homeland. They still had their Greece all by itself, not us. We had a tiny small country [today’s Republic] that within 2 1/2 years after we won the war against Turkey in May 28, 1918, have been gulped by the Bolshevik regime for over 70 years; and then we practically had nothing but just the remnants of some 700,000 if that much of orphaned children and some mothers scattered all over the world. The Hellens didn’t really go through what we went through, and they didn’t lose everything as we did.
It’s about time that our organizations are commemorating the genocide of the people of Asia Minor. I wish to see all these organizations unite and commemorate the genocide not only on April 24, but we need to know what dates the Syrias, Chaldeans, Assyrians, the Pontic Greeks, the kurds and the Alevi’s commemorate their genocides. We can’t just sit idle 364 days out of the year and only commemorate and remember the genocide on April 24th. We need to remind the turks of their genocides more than once a year.
