Presidents’ Statement Urges Concessions by Armenia, Says Hovannesian

YEREVAN (Yerkir)—The statement on Karabakh issued by the presidents of France, the US and Russia over the weekend is a direct message to Armenia urging concessions and reflects only the interests of Azerbaijan, said Armenian Revolutionary Federation parliamentary bloc chairman, Vahan Hovannesian in an interview with Yerkir on Monday.

He explained that the statement, made at the G8 summit in Canada, appeases Azerbaijan by calling for the “withdrawal from occupied territories,” and leaves the final solution to Karabakh’s status nebulous at best.

Hovannesian also expressed surprise at the immediate embracing of the statement as a positive step in the peace process.

“I am surprised at what is our foreign ministry expressing its support? What in this announcement has satisfied him,” asked Hovannesian, who pointed out inconsistencies between the Russian and the English versions of the statement.

Hovannesian explained that the Russian text clearly states that the status of Karabakh will be chosen by its residents, while the English version does not draw that distinction.

He said foreign ministry spokesperson Tigran Balayan had expressed that “the same conclusions can be derived from both versions by the foreign minister.”

The ARF’s political affairs director, Giro Manoyan, said the presidential statement was incomplete on many fronts.

“The statement was incomplete in several fronts. First of all, the fact that the presidents failed to make any mention of last week’s attack by the Azerbaijani side signals that they are not worried about the issue,” said Manoyan who also reiterated the ARF’s opposition to the so-called Madrid Principles that are being used as the basis for the OSCE Minsk Group mediated peace talks.

Arman, are you trying to start civil war in Armenia?

Levon tried that and we saw the results.

Hope you are not getting paid by Azeri Petro Dollar.

      Dear Arman,

Hovannesian perhaps knows that he cannot do much and the matter is beyond his control or influence. The above is just a political statement for record.

Nalbandian and his crew are messing around freely, with no checks and no balances. Look what Nalbandian or the Armenian administration did last week when 4 soldiers were murdered rutlessly. He didn’t bother even to visit the families of these soldiers. God knows the situation of those families. Please think about the parents, wife, children, and brother / sisters of those soldiers. Put yourself in their shoes.

Do you think Nalbandian cares if 40, 400, or 4000 Armenians get butchered by Azeries next week? I agree with you that unless the people rise, crooked people like Nalbandian will continue their “Davajan” behavior. I wonder who can remove this piece of garbage from our foriegn ministry.

    MR. HOVANESSIAN,

If you want people to fight for Artsakh, we are here from Diaspora, from Armenia proper and Artsakh.
NOT ONE INCH OF LAND MUST BE GIVEN TO THE “azeri” vermins, snakes, pests. THEY WILL ATTACK FROM ALL AROUND ARTSAKH AND YOU AND I WILL HAVE ARTSAKH NO MORE. BE WISE AND DON’T LET SARKISIAN OR HALF WITTED NALBANDIAN TO AGREE WITH ANYTHING ELSE. NOT ONE INCH OF LAND MUST BE GIVEN BACK TO THE ENEMY (FOR HEAVEN’S SAKE WHEN WE WON THE WAR). WE CAN WIN IT AGAIN!!!!!!!!!

FrankM: Don’t you read the news? The three OSCE Minsk Group presidents; Obama/Medvedev/Sarkozi said in Canada while they met that despite the “azeris” attack and killing to our four soldiers in Artsakh, they are urging Armenia to give back the surrounding lands of Artsakh back to the “azeris”. Whether we said it 10 times or 100 times, it doesn’t matter, what matters is that it’s alarming to me what those presidents are now arm twisting Armenia and Sarkisian to give back these lands that are very vital for our survival as a nation. These lands are very important for us, they do belong to us and it’s important that they stay connected to Armenia. Otherwise the “azeri” pogroms will attack our people in Artsakh as they just did recently. Our soldiers’ lives will be endangered. I am scared, aren’t you? If we have to say and reiterate it 100 or 1000 times, then be it. This is very alarming to me that Sarkisian stays on the ball and not go along with Obama or Medvedev as he did in the past with the dangerous protocols. Yes I am distressed about all this.
