Glendale ANC Establishes Youth Activist Scholarship Fund

GLENDLAE—The Armenian National Committee of Glendale announced this week the establishment of the ANC Glendale Youth Activist Scholarship Fund through which two $500 and one $1000 scholarships will be awarded to local students on an annual basis.

“ANC Glendale is indebted to all the community members who made it possible for us to establish a fund for the next generation of leaders to deservingly get their chance at success,” stated Executive Director of ANC Glendale, Elen Asatryan.  “We hope the scholarship fund will encourage our local youth to become more civically engaged, help alleviate some of the financial burden associated with higher education while supporting those who have dedicated themselves to the betterment of our community and our city,” added Asatryan.

To be eligible, applicants must be graduating high school seniors planning to attend an accredited college or university full time or current college students attending an accredited college or university full time; have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5; have demonstrated a strong commitment to activism through community involvement; reside in the City of Glendale.

Distribution of the 2010 awards will take place at the ANC Glendale Annual Banquet on September 16, 2010 and will be based on contributions to the overall Glendale community with an emphasis on the Armenian-American community; demonstrated leadership and participation in school and community activities; commitment to academic excellence; and the likelihood of commitment to the Glendale community and civic engagement in the future.

Applications for the 2010 Scholarship awards will become available online on July 20, 2010.  Interested individuals can view and download copies of the application by visiting the “For Students” section of the ANC Glendale website at www.ancglendale.org.
Community members interested in making a donation to the fund may do so online at www.ancglendale.org or make checks payable to ANCG Scholarship Fund and mail them to ANC Glendale Scholarship Fund, 211 W. Chestnut St., Suite 302, Glendale, CA 91204.

The Armenian National Committee—Glendale Chapter advocates for the social, economic, cultural, and political rights of the city’s Armenian American community and promotes increased civic participation at the grassroots and public policy levels.
