Aliyev Again Threatens Military Action

BAKU (RFE/RL)—Azerbaijan’s President Ilham has again blamed Armenia for the deadlock in the Nagorno-Karabakh peace process and threatened to end the conflict by force “at any moment.”

“The war is continuing,” Aliyev said in a speech in Baku reported by Azerbaijani media on Wednesday. “We must be ready and we are ready to liberate our lands from occupiers at any moment.

“I want to once again state that this primarily requires a military might. We have for the most part created that might and this process is successfully continuing.”

“Today, the Azerbaijani army—Azerbaijan’s military potential—allow us to do that,” he said. “We just want this issue to be resolved by peaceful means, by means of negotiations.”

Aliyev went on to accuse Armenia of “stalling for time” in the long-running peace talks mediated by the United States, Russia and France. “If negotiations are scuttled, a new situation will arise and the issue of solving the problem by military means will be included on the agenda.”

Armenian leaders say Baku itself is impeding further progress in the talks by rejecting peace proposals made by Russian President Dmitry Medvedev in June. They have described those proposals as a “new version” of the so-called Madrid principles of a Karabakh settlement.

The Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry has insisted that Russia drafted them single-handedly without consulting with the U.S. and French co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group. A ministry spokesman said late last month that they are unacceptable to Baku. He said the most recent Minsk Group proposal was submitted to the conflicting parties late last year and it was largely accepted by the Azerbaijani side.

Officials in Armenia and Karabakh have also repeatedly dismissed the Azerbaijani war threats. “The likelihood of large-scale hostilities is small,” Karabakh President Bako Sahakian said on July 30.

Hey, Asbarez, don’t publish my “comments” to your articles, about distributing Kalashnikovs to our border-town Armenian families so that they can defend themselves like Jews do in Israel. Don’t, like you always do. Shame on you! Do you want the Genocide repeated? And don’t act as if you are surprized, go look in your records, you have rejected my comments many a time. We MUST arm our border-town citizens!

This arrogant man talks in a way like Azerbaijan was the winner of the last war; this shameless looser keeps giving ultimatums; it looks like ignoring tactic is not working and he keeps barking, it is time for reminding him he is barking in the wind and if he wants to be heard then he must shut up first and then like the old times crawling on his belly come forward to his Armenian Master and beg for forgiveness.

Aliyev, get it through your head, Artsakh (formerly known as Nagorno-Karapakh) was Armenian soil for thousands of years, until our brave men of arms fought and won the war in 1992 regaining our Artsakhian lands. Tell that to your Tatar “Azeri” pogrom countrymen.

VERY SWIFTLY BECAUSE THE WAY I SEE IT THEY KEEP ON THREATENING US , LETS SHOW THEM
HOW MUCH WILL IT COST TO THREAT ARMENIA LET’S TAKE MORE LAND ,WHY CAN,T WE BE LIKE ISRAEL ….YES YOU MAY SAY THAT THE USA IS BEHIND ISRAEL BUT WE HAVE RUSSIA TO SUPPORT US WHAT ARE FREINDS FOR ANYWAY, THE MORE WE SLEEP ON IT THE MORE THE WE GIVE CHANCE TO THOSE MONGRELS TO THEATEN US , WE SHOULD SHOW THEM THAT ARMENIA IS NOT THE SAME COUNTRY THAT USED TO BE BEATEN ALL THE TIME BY THE TURKS AND THEIR COMPATRIOTS THE AZERIES . FINALY IF AZERIES WANT WAR GIVE IT TO THEM TEACH THEM WHO THE BOSS IS THOSE TURKS NEED THE CANE TO SHUT THEM UP ,NO DIPLOMACY WILL MAKE THOSE MONGRELS UNDERSTAND ………

PREPERE AND WAIT FOR THE RIGHT MOMENT,

BUT AZEBADJAN IS NOT YOU MISSION,
LEAVE THEM TO THE RUSSIANS OR AND THE IRANIANS.

I WOULD LIKE TO ADD –

EVEN TURKEY – THE US AND NATO – WILL MAKE WAR ON ARMENIA IN SUCH A CASE.

IF RUSSIA IS ABLE TO PROTECT ARMENIA IN SUCH A CASE,
        ARMENIA COULD TAKE AZERBADJAN ON,
        NOT OTHERWISE.

THIS WILL ALSO GIVE PROPAGANDA VICTORY,
SINCE ARMENIA WOULD ONLY PROTECT ITSELF,
        AND RUSSIA ONLY PROTECTS ARMENIA.

        GOD BLESS ARMENIA,
        AND RUSSIA,
        FOR THE SAKE OF ARMENIA,
        IN THIS MATTER !!!.

My Dear compatriots, I Agree with Stephan. Do not be afraid of the Turks. They have a little Kurdish, Cyprus, Greek problem to deal with. If they attacked Armenia they would actually mobilise all Armenians all over the world, because our wounds are still soar from the Genoide, Even the great supperpowers would not be able to deal with such a pan Armenian mobilisation. My dear friends do not underestimate what we can do if we join together. Trust me the Turks are having sleepless nights about it.

lol. No response to Gregory’s question?

Azerbaijan during KARABAKH War is not the same as AZERBAIJAN today. I really hope that Armenia attacks Azerbaijan like Stephen Bekian suggested:) Trust me, that’s what Azerbaijan is waiting for: any spark that will ignite the tensions. Maybe Armenia is twice or three times stronger than what it used to be. But I don’t think it’s military arsenal should be compared to that of Azerbaijan, which is hundreds times stronger than old Azerbaijan. I really hope the war starts soon!

    • Osik said:

      Hey you; Aruke….
Forget about arsenal; you want to say in the last war we were fully armed with arsenal and they were fighting with hunting rifles? Where we all know it was the other way around.
Last time it was the “blue flashlight” which scared that spineless “Azeri Army” to run away on their under wares hiding behind Azeri woman and children; and this time we will improvise something new to scare them off, I’m sure you have seen those videos on the internet showing those crying captive Azeri hooligans crying and kissing their Armenian Master’s rear (I didn’t call them soldiers because real soldier wont cry), now why do you think this time is going to be different you think US is selling them “Bravery ” capsules too?
Those scared Army of Mice regardless how much “Arsenal” is tied to their tiny tales; is not brave enough to look at the Armenian Lions in the eye.
They should go and learn from past and current wars between an up to the teeth armed Armies against the population, Nam/USA, Afghans/USSR, Artsakh/Azerbaijan (Budmjan) …should I continue?
That is your mistake; Arstakh is free; so don’t hope and don’t pray it won’t happen because we are not aggressive we just know how to defend our lands against aggressors; you have seen that we have done it before and we will do it again; that’s a promise and you will see it again.

Long live our Free Republic of Artsakh……

        Osik jan,

I love your postivity and your patriotism. It’s very catchy and wonderful. While reading your post, I just remembered in our past history about our Katchen Vartan Mamigonian and his 60,000 army against the huge more than 300,000 Persian army and how they fought bravely against the Persians. You are on target when you say that Armenian men are “erkeg” BRAVE. They are never afraid to die for their country / women / and children. They will fight and they will die bravely for their sacred cause. Armenians are also smart and they know how to fight intelligently against the enemy. That’s why we are grand. It also comes to mind before the Artsakh war; from the 1880’s through 1915, when the Armenian Revolutionary Federation’s Fedayis would fight on the mountains of Western Armenia to defend their people from the Turkish pogroms, they often times fought with much less men against the Turks who were 10, 20, 30 or more times more than they were. They always fought intelligently and bravely. So you see, I most certainly agree with all your thoughts above!!!! We are a bunch of smart, proud and intelligent people!

Unlike you guys we are not war mongers, we dont preach war and beat our chests. We do what we have to and if it means taking another 20% of our lands back, than we will.

New weapons and arsenal will mean nothing, your soldiers are only good for cutting throats when an Armenian is sleep.

Someone should warn this mongol to be careful what he wishes ……

I like Gregory’s question. Our military is not what it was in the early 90s, it is the best trained in the South Caucasus and thankfully we will not need to rely on Fedayin’s. But, God forbid another war breaks out, how much support, realistically, do you all think the Diaspora will render to the Homeland? This includes all facets, such as economic, military, diplomatic, etc.

This is the resault of bad politics from Armenia.
I have never seen such bad politicians.Their main goal is to keep Artsakh and you don’t even see any progress from that point… I wounder how the other points on the agenda is going..

  12. Seervart Kevorkian said:

Abbe, If you are Armenian and with the right mind and the understanding, then you should clearly understand the ultimate importance of keeping Artsakh. If Artsakh goes, so will Armenia sooner or later. This is most apparent. Not just Artsakh; but Armenia needs the Artsakhian lands right next to her. We happen to have a little bit of the Syunik land to the south that is attached to Persia/Iran. If Artsakh goes, both the Azeris and the Turks will demand Syunik to be connected to each other; and where will the little Armenia be?? So you see, Armenia has to keep Artsakh. It is absolutely imperative for the continuation of sovereignty of Armenia.

  13. Seervart Kevorkian said:

Abbe, I understand however your point about the existing government’s wrondoings in Armenia. Btw; the protocols and the eight non Armenian schools which they OK’d just recently in the parliament. They were both unacceptable for us to understand or appreciate their thinking process and their deeds that is un-Armenian in nature. However, when it comes to Artsakh, I stand by my post above as Artsakh’s existence is vital and of great importance to Armenia. I wish that very soon Armenia would recognize the independence of Artsakh.

    In response to aruke:

In the first war, Azerbajian had more advanced weapons, more troops and strategically in much better position in every manner. Armenia was in midst of total chaos, with the earthquake and independance.

We managed to kick them out of Artsakh, WHY?

Because like Sardarabad we had no choice.

This time if Azerbaijan dares to attack, they have a lot more to lose, they may have better and shiner equipments, but so do we. Imagine the economic chaos if all strategic gas & oil pipe lines are attacked
    and destroyed.

War is not the answer, but if Azerbaijan starts war, we will answer in such a way that will shut them up for centuries, and we will regain lands that we should have taken last time.
