United Commemorative Committee Announces Future Projects

GLENDALE—During the past decade, the United Commemorative Committee, a coalition of leading community organizations, has coordinated Armenian Genocide commemorative events in Southern California.

The UCC has included representatives of the three major political parties, four religious denominations and leading charitable and compatriotic organizations.

This year the 95th Anniversary of the Armenian Genocide again was commemorated through the efforts of the United Commemorative Committee, which expanded to include a broad spectrum of charitable organizations and compatriotic unions.

In assessing the effectiveness of the UCC’s activities, as well as the imperative to promote the recognition of the Armenian Genocide year-round, the participating organizations decided that the United Commemorative Committee should expand its activities to include planning and organizing several events throughout the year and should coordinate next year’s commemoration activities well in advance.

To effectively address the aforementioned objectives, and after assessing its immediate priorities it established the following goals:

  • Organize seminars and workshops, as well as activities throughout the year dedicated to raising awareness of the Armenian Genocide
  • Plan and organize commemoration activities well in advance for next year.

In discussing its mission and in addition to organizing Genocide Commemoration events, the United Body deemed appropriate the implementation of additional events and programs that will serve the Armenian community and are supported by participating organizations.

The first of these events will be a special public program dedicated to the 90th anniversary of the signing of the Sevres Treaty, scheduled during the month of October. Additional information about this event will be forthcoming in future release.
