Alek Keshishian to present Sérge Avedikian with Arpa Int’l Film Fest 2010 Career Achievement Award

HOLLYWOOD—Award-winning filmmaker Alek Keshishian will present Paris-based filmmaker Sérge Avedikian with a Career Achievement Award at the 13th annual Arpa International Film Festival’s Francophone evening on Thursday, Sept 23, 2010 at the Egyptian Theatre.

Alek Keshishian (“Truth or Dare”, With Honors”) co-wrote the feature film W.E which is currently in production with Madonna in her directorial debut.

This year, the festival introduces the previously announced Francophone-Fest Cinema, a sidebar event dedicated to French-language films from France, Switzerland, Belgium, Armenia, Tunisia, Morocco, Quebec, and Lebanon.

Avedikian is an Armenian-French film and theatre actor, director, writer, producer, and winner of Cannes Film Festival’s Palm D’Or – Short Film prize for his 2010 film, Chienne D’Histoire (Barking Island).

“We’re honored to have Sérge Avedikian’s work represented in the festival this year. He’s a prolific artist whose films have garnered worldwide attention,” says festival director, Alex Kalognomos. “It’s also his first time visiting Hollywood. It will be a privilege to introduce him to hisAmerican audience.”

On Thursday, September 23, the festival in partnership with Francophone-Fest Cinema and sponsor Air Tahiti Nui will present a selection of Avedkian’s filmography and present him with the festival’s 2010 Career Achievement Award. “Celebrating Serge Avedikian” will include screenings of “Chienne D’Histoire” (2010) and “Mission Accomplie” (1992) and the award presentation by Alek Keshishian. A third film featuring the work of Avedikian, “Bonded Parallels” will also screen in the fest on Saturday (9/25).

Avedikian was born in Yerevan, Armenian USSR in 1955. His parents were born in France, children of survivors of the 1915 Armenian Genocide. In 1947, Avedkian’s parents left France for Armenia where Avedikian was born and where he would eventually attended the French school of Yerevan. At the age of fifteen along with his family, he returned to France. He got his stage debut in college, in his professor’s amateur theater company.

After studies at the Conservatory of Dramatic Arts in Meudon (France), he arrived in Paris in 1971 where he worked with the students of the Paris Conservatory. In 1976, he created a theater company and produced several plays. At the same time, he pursued a career as a theater, movie and television actor. In 1988, he founded his own production company but continues to direct films.
