ANKARA (Today’s Zaman)–Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu said on Wednesday that Turkey was still keen on normalizing its relations with neighboring Armenia.
Davutoğlu made his remarks at a conference at Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government in Boston. He spoke about “Turkey’s Foreign Policy Priorities in a New World Order.”
Replying to a question from the audience about Turkey’s relations with Armenia, Davutoğlu said the two countries had begun negotiations in Switzerland in 2007 and signed several protocols last year that were still valid. He added that the two governments will work to complete this process.
“Turkey is ready to share and discuss history. But doors should not be closed,” the Turkish foreign minister said, adding that Ankara is as eager to establish ties with Armenia as it was with Syria and Greece.
“We are ready to cooperate with Armenia. That’s why we signed those protocols. There is a need for a new Caucasus based on mutual respect and territorial integrity, and relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia should be normalized for lasting sound relations,” Davutoğlu said.
