LOS ANGELES–Seven Armenian-Americans were elected as Democratic Party delegates in elections throughout California this weekend, reported the Armenian National Committee of America – Western Region.
Based on unofficial results, Armenian-Americans were elected from the 43rd, 53rd and 58th Districts. In the 43rd District: Michael Kiaman, Juliette Minassian, Nayiri Nahabedian, and Adrin Nazarian were elected out of 47 candidates. In the 53rd District, Varo Asorian won in a field of 47 candidates and in the 58th District: Alexandra Ananian and Murad Minassian won in a field of 26 candidates. Alexandra Ananian was also elected to the influential Executive Committee of the State Central Committee.
“The ANCA-WR would like to congratulate all the Armenian-American candidates who ran for Delegate this weekend,” said Haig Hovsepian, Government Affairs Director. He continued, “we are encouraged that so many Armenian Americans participated in this weekend’s elections as candidates and as voters”.
In the Glendale/Burbank based 43rd Assembly District, two competing slates of candidates included four Armenians as a part of their teams, while two Armenian candidates ran as a part of neither slate. Over 300 Democrats voted in the tightly contested race, which went into a recount late into the night. The 43rd AD race saw Armenians elected from both slates.
“Yesterday was a good day for the ANCA,” said Garen Yegparian, Chair of the ANCA-Burbank. “It was a two-fer for the Armenian community. Because of our efforts, each slate was able to get one more representative on the board, and the Armenian community was able to get proportional representation among our district’s delegates.”
The Armenian National Committee of America-Western Region is the largest Armenian American grassroots advocacy organization which advances the concerns of the Armenian American community on a broad range of issues.

My brother use to assault and beat his wife daily, she was suicidal, in return she sought revenge abusing her daughter and son on a daily basis. My youngest brother beats his wife so violently, that each time, to find out, that she was still alive, was a surprise. Many times he crashed sofa on her or a smashed the bed while she was in it. He would use hammer and axe. The household and small kids were in shear terror.
It was senseless casual beating for no apparent reason.
In most cases, father abused the mother, the brothers abuse the sisters. At the end they both fathers and brothers pass the torch of abuse to the husband.
My father killed my mom, but before he did that, few times he broke her arms, and teeth, violently raped her. How do I know, from court documents.
My cousin, one now gone, use to beat his petit wife so severely, that even to my violent brothers standards was awful. They have described me, that L…’s body and face was so swollen and blue the she was beyond recognizable. L… use to tell me that, her husband use to hit her, even when he was sleep. Like if she was in pain or sick, if she would make a sound, the fist in the middle of darkness would launch on her face. He would not even care where he was hitting.
I know friends, cousins, in law’s many, many women that suffer and are trapped in a situation. When my mother would complain to his father about heavy beating, the grandpa, her father, will say don’ t you dare come back my home again. Don’t you dear embarrass me with divorce. Mom got killed. When my cousin finally left her violent husband, her parents, her siblings cut all ties with her. M… have died in obscurity, no one knows where she is beared, she was forced to live in the streets, no one took her in, because she would not take the abuse any more.
I have covered the names but the story’s are true.
