YEREVAN (Yerkir Media)–This winter has been particularly rough for farmers in Armenia’s Shirak region, where 17,000 hectors of cultivated land is in danger of going bad. The area is usually covered in snow this time of the year, which insulates newly planted crops, preventing frostbite and providing much needed water for the crops.
Farmers here have no insurance against the whether and the local administration cannot predict what the temperatures will be like in the coming weeks. Local farmers can only hope that temperatures drop or snow falls.
