PASADENA—As you step into the new Pasadena Armenian Center on Foothill Boulevard the first office you will see belongs to the Pasadena Armenian Relief Society Sosse chapter. The local chapter, which began with five dedicated members in 1974, and now has over one hundred and forty proud members, has for decades served the humanitarian and cultural needs of Armenian Americans in the City of Pasadena.
“Our new Pasadena Armenian Center is a welcome home for our ongoing efforts to serve our community,” remarked Karine Barikian-Setian, chair of the Pasadena ARS Sosse chapter. “Our doors at the center are always open to those who want to join the ARS and contribute to the well-being of our community. Our office at the Pasadena Armenian Center is, more than anything, a place where we channel our energies to supporting the social, educational, health and welfare of our community,” the chapter chair added.
The Pasadena ARS Sosse chapter is proud to sponsor an Armenian language class for students enrolled in Pasadena Public Schools. This academic year, the ARS Sosse chapter’s Armenian language class at Webster Elementary School has enrolled over 30 students, with 3 teachers and a number of local ARS members serving as volunteer teaching aides. The chapter is also proud to sponsor 5 college students in Armenia and Artsakh through the ARS Orphans Educational Fund. Several months ago, the chapter invested the proceeds from its Christmas party to support the educational and cultural efforts of the ARS Central Committee in Javakh. Over the years, the chapter has also offered support for the local Tavlian Armenian Pre-School and advancing Armenian traditions and values across a broad array of efforts in the community.
In 2011, the Pasadena ARS Sosse chapter will continue to be involved in fundraising efforts that benefit the local community and international efforts to support outstanding ARS programs in Armenia and Artsakh.
The Pasadena ARS Sosse has been a central force in efforts to secure and support the new Pasadena Armenian Center on Foothill Boulevard. The organization has worked to financially support the center and has also worked to make its members available to support the center’s activities with a family of sister organizations.
The mission of the Pasadena Armenian Center is to serve the dynamic and diverse Armenian American community in the City of Pasadena. A number of distinguished community organizations are based out of the Pasadena Armenian Center. These organizations include, but are not limited to, the Armenian Youth Federation “Nigol Touman” Chapter, the Armenian Relief Society “Sosse” Chapter, the Hamazkayin “Shahan Shahnour” Chapter, the Homenetmen “Azadamard” Chapter, and the Armenian Cultural Foundation, among others.
