JERUSALEM—Israel’s Foreign Ministry must review its position on recognition of the Armenian Genocide, said Ze’ev Elkin member of Likud Party of Israel’s parliament, the Knesset at a conference dedicated to the 96th anniversary of the Genocide.
The Foreign Ministry should not adhere to the non-recognition position which once was introduced by Simon Peres to favor of Turkey, he added, according to the the press service of the Likud party.
“The State of Israel, calling on the world to accept historical justice and observe moral norms, cannot act on the contrary being guided by narrow political views only. It’s time to stop the policy of indulging Turkey, introduced by Shimon Peres. The Jewish State should have been among the first to declare an official recognition. Unfortunately, Israel is one of the last Western countries which has not done so. Better late than never,” he said.
Elkin also urged his fellow members of Knesset to vote for the adoption of a resolution recognizing the Armenian Genocide. He appealed to the chairman of the Knesset Committee on Foreign Affairs and Defense, Shaul Mofaz, requesting to conclude hearings on the matter and submit a bill for Knesset’s approval.
Many states have recognized the Armenian Genocide. Uruguay was the first to do it in 1965. The Armenian Genocide has since been recognized by Russia, France, Germany, Netherlands, Belgium, Poland, Lithuania, Slovakia, Sweden, Switzerland, Greece, Cyprus, Lebanon, Canada, Venezuela, Argentina, as well as by 42 of the U.S. states. The Armenian Genocide has also been recognized by the Vatican, the European Parliament, and World Council of Churches.

Oh Yeah? Mr. Ze’ev Elkin and his Likud Party should go ahead and do it, instead of just talking about it.
I’m afraid Ze’ev Elkin is merely giving a tit-for-tat warning to Ankara, Israel has no intention of recognizing the Armenian Genocide.
We never denied yours! We know and you too should know better-those that deny this act on our people in your culture are only making hate grow stronger-u r NOT ALONE- We share the same enemies-now and then-100%. Thank you and do it-We will even visit your country more than ever as an ally and friend-
It appears that since Jews had suffered their genocide via HItler that they would, morally, be aligned with the Armenians for the Turkish Genocide of the Armenian nation. Israel is another on again/off again leadership as is, too, a Turkey with their ‘alliances.’
OH PLEASE. Tell them to stop the genocide they are making now first. Amot irents
its time israel to stop playing politics i beleive in your peoples suffering my people have suffered too as much so time to come to terms with late but you are welcome
Yes! What is Israel waiting for? Every year we hear about this reviewing of positions when Israel is concerned, so when are the Israelis going to finally recognise the Srmenan Genocide? It’s becoming a bit of a joke now. Surely more than anyone else Jews knows exactly what happened in 1915 to Armenians. What’s the difference then between Turkey and Israel? If someone dares to question any policy of the Israeli government, they are instantly tarnished with the brush of anti semitism and all sorts of other labels. What label is therefore fit enough to put on Israelis for denying the Armenian Genocide?
I think it is curious that among Muslim or Arab countries, only Lebanon has recognized the Genocide.
Why do we not direct any criticism toward the former, but only toward Israel? Can anyone try to answer this?
I certainly understand Israel’s hesitation for recognition of the Armenian Genocide. If Armenia was in Israel’s place, Armenia would have acted exactly the same way. Israel-Turkey friendship was an existential issue for Israel as Israel is surrounded by hostile countries who are intent in destroying their nation.
We all know that every Jew in the world knows and recognizes the Armenian Genocide. I am glad Turkey now is forcing Israel to recognize the Genocide because the Turks can not have the cake and eat it too. Moreover Israel now has been left alone in the neighborhood and is now trying to activate its long standing policy of peripheral friendship. Making friends with countries surrounding the Arabs.
As far as I am concerned Armenia does not need Israel’s recognition if that will yield a friendship between Israel and Armenia at the expense of Armenian-Arab disfriendship.
Armenians should now concentrate on creating jobs in the homeland to keep every single Armenian family in the homeland so they can prosper and multiply.
Dear Israeli/Jewish friends, the ball is in your court, what are you waiting for?
When israel and turkey are allied/unallied, on again/off again… it is sickening to watch… that’s when I think they deserve one another… actually like children who decide to be friends/or not to be friends!! Too, when
the israelis suffered their Genocide… one would think that they would be able to ally themselves – not ignoring Armenians – the nation who suffered the Turkish Genocide of the Armenian nation the since 19th century and their Turkic abuses into 20th and still, into the 21st centuries – ongoing/unending.
any one or country denying the Armenian Genocide or not recognizing it is an ignorant criminal… Israel is not saving Israel by not doing the right thing, its invalidating the state of Israel by denying the Armenian Genocide which is directly connected to the Holocaust…its tragic for them but they have chosen to partner up with a primitive so now they have regressed to the same level as the criminal Turkey how sad for the survivors of the Holocaust…how sad for the state of Israel… its tragic…
