Rosie Bedrosian Retires From Keyan School; Sophie Mekhitarian Named New Principal

After more than 30 years of service to the Armenian Community School, Rosie Bedrosian has announced her retirement as the school’s principal. The Charlie Keyan Armenian Community School Board of Education named Sophie Mekhitarian—a former Clovis Unified School District teacher and administrator—to replace Bedrosian at the conclusion of the 2008-2009 academic year.

ARS Mourns Iranian Air Crash Victims

It was with a very heavy heart that the Armenian Relief Society of Western USA (ARS-WR) learned last week of the tragic news of the crashing of Caspian Airlines Flight #7908 from Tehran, Iran to Yerevan, Armenia which went down near the village of Jannatabad, outside the city of Qazvin in north-western Iran.

Toronto Community Center to Receive $2 Million Federal Funding

The Armenian Community Center of Toronto will benefit from a joint federal and provincial investment of $2,000,000, which will go toward the rehabilitation of the centre, under the Recreational Infrastructure Canada program in Ontario and Recreation Ontario (Ontario REC) announced by Parliament members Bob Dechert and David Caplan.

ANC Hollywood Hosts Summer Forum on 2010 Census for Little Armenia

Kicking off a round of upcoming summer activities, the Armenian National Committee of Hollywood (ANC Hollywood) hosted a summer Community Issues Briefing to raise awareness about the 2010 US Census within the Little Armenia community and provide an update on Armenian American issues at the federal, state, and local levels. The event was held at Karapetian Hall at Saint Garabed Armenian Church on Thursday, July 16th. Joined by representatives from the US Census Bureau including featured speaker and Partnership Specialist, Anahit Tovmasyan, the event drew over fifty local area residents many of them being high school and college students.

Second Annual Nataline Sarkisyan Memorial Fashion Show Attracts Hundreds

When cancer was allowed to claim 17-year-old Nataline’s Sarkisyan’s life, her family vowed to change health care laws. They vowed to stop for-profit insurance companies from being allowed to decide who gets to live and who gets to die. Saturday, nearly 500 gathered to celebrate Nataline’s legacy and the Sarkisyan Family’s 18-month health care reform crusade at the second annual Nataline’s Legacy Fashion Show.

Historic Youth Center Opens Doors In Glendale

The Armenian Cultural Foundation (ACF) Glendale Chapter marked the opening of its long anticipated Youth Center on Sunday, July 12 as hundreds from the community attended a special ribbon cutting ceremony to inaugurate the new building, located at the center of a diverse and growing city of over 200,000.
