Interning for the Cause, Hovsep Hajibekyan Raises Awareness About Issues Through Media

Hovsep Hajibekyan, a senior at UC Berkley, is one of seven students participating in the 2009 Summer Session of the Armenian National Committee-Western Region’s Internship-Externship Program (ANC-WR IEP). He joins the program, which began on June 15th this summer, as a Public and Media Relations Intern. Through the program, Hajibekyan will not only be gaining experience in public and media relations but also learning about current Armenian American issues.

Western Prelacy Hosts Ambassador Yovanovitch

U.S. Ambassador to Armenia Marie Yovanovitch arrived in Los Angeles for a meeting with the Armenian community. On Friday, June 26, the Western Prelacy hosted the ambassador for dinner at the Prelacy, followed by a community forum at “Avedissian” Hall of Ferrahian School.

ANC-WR Welcomes 2009 Summer Session Interns

Beginning June 15, the Armenian National Committee-Western Region welcomed the seven newest participants in its Internship-Externship Program. The 2009 Summer Session class includes students from across California who will be spending the summer working at the ANC-WR office in Glendale, California. The interns will assist the board and staff with day-to-day operations at the office while completing individually assigned community development and public policy related projects.

ANC-WR and GenEd Volunteers Lead Seminar at High School Peace Day Event

On Friday, May 29th, the Armenian National Committee-Western Region (ANC-WR) joined students at Valley Alternative Magnet School (VAMS) for its 2009 Peace Day Program. The event, organized by students for students, faculty, and parents covered several humanitarian and social justice topics. Shant Hagopian, a recent graduate of UC Berkeley and an ANCA Leo Sarkisian Intern alumnus conducted a seminar about the Armenian Genocide.
