Holy Martyrs Elementary School Officially Inaugurated as Marie Cabayan School

The elementary section of Holy Martyrs Ferrahian High School was officially named Holy Martyrs Marie Cabayan Elementary School during an inauguration ceremony on Friday, August 27. Earlier this year, during the Prelate’s Christmas Dinner, in memory of their mother Marie Cabayan, Dr. and Mrs. Vatche and Shoushig Cabayan presented a donation of $500,000 to the school. In response the school administration decided to officially name the elementary section Holy Martyrs Marie Cabayan Elementary School.

ANCA-WR, AYF Advocate for Armenian American Taxi Drivers Struggling to Keep Jobs In Santa Monica

The Armenian National Committee of America – Western Region and the Armenian Youth Federation are working with Armenian American taxi companies who were refused operational rights by a Santa Monica City Council Taskforce, through a recommendation which would allow the franchise of only five taxi companies to operate within the City. The Santa Monica City Council is scheduled to vote on this recommendation in September.

MOCA Hosts Screening of ‘Ararat’ with Atom Egoyan

The Museum of Contemporary Art on June 24 hosted a special screening of the 2002 film ‘Ararat’ followed by a Q&A with director Atom Egoyan. The screening was organized in conjunction with MOCA’s Arshile Gorky: A Retrospective exhibit. ‘Ararat,’ a film within a film, was written and directed by Egoyan and stars Arsinée Khanjian, Christopher Plummer, and Eric Bogosian. The film weaves together tales about a contemporary Armenian family, artist Arshile Gorky, and a tragic part of the history of the Armenian people–the Armenian Genocide.

Navasartian Victory Ball Celebrates Homenetmen’s Athletes

This year’s much anticipated Navasartian Victory Ball was held on Saturday June 26 at the Glendale Hilton Hote. It celebrated the great successes of thousands of Homenetmen athletes. The celebratory gathering, organized days ahead of the final tournament, highlighted all the victories that accompany the Navasartian Athletic Games.

AYF Youth Corps Car Wash Draws Support for Camp Gyumri

Volunteers from the Armenian Youth Federation’s Youth Corps program organized a car wash fundraiser on Saturday January 26 to raise money for the organization’s upcoming Camp Gyumri program in Armenia. On July 10, the Youth Corps group will depart for the Homeland to spend two weeks touring Armenia and Karabakh and four weeks operating Camp Gyumri. Over the course of the coming weeks, they will be blogging and sharing their journeys throughout Armenia and their experiences of volunteering in the Homeland.
