Two Armenian club teams–Gyumri’s Shirak and Yerevan’s Banants–were eliminated from United European Football Association (UEFA) Cup competition during the final second-leg matches of the qualifying round–which were held on Thursday–August 28.

A delegation of high-ranking Roman Catholic clergymen from the United States–led by Cardinal William Keeler of Baltimore–visited Armenia on Wednesday. Religious leaders from various US states are among the delegation members.
