Performances, drawings, humor and songs gave students in Gyumri a chance to illustrate critical issues harming their rights during a recent event held by student councils.

The Crescenta Valley ‘Zartonk’ Chapter of the Armenian Youth Federation will be hosting a lounge night fundraiser on Saturday March 28 as part of a large scale effort by the organization’s nine Southern California chapters to raise funds for the AYF’s Youth Corps program in Armenia.

Over 50 young Armenia’s came together from across Southern California Wednesday to give their support to the Armenian Youth Federation’s Youth Corps program, raising funds for its summer camp in Armenia with an evening of bowling at Glendale’s Jewel City Bowl.

Twenty years ago, the Armenian nation suffered one of its most horrific natural disasters in modern history. A 7.2 magnitude earthquake struck the then Soviet Armenian Republic, destroying Spitak, and severely devastating Gyumri and its surrounging towns and villages. Seven young Armenia’s from Southern California have decided to spend their summer as volunteers in Armenia running a day camp for underprivileged kids in the Armenia’s second largest city of Gyumri.

The Armenian Youth Federation’s Youth Corps program will now be giving Diasporan youth the opportunity to serve as summer camp counselors for underprivileged youth in Armenia, the AYF announced on Friday.
