Turkey Plans to Buy US-Made F-35 Fighter Jets

The F-35 Fighter Jet is produced by Lockheed Martin

ISTANBUL (Hurriyet Daily News)—Turkey is planning to purchase 100 multi-purpose F-35 fighter jets worth $16 billion, Turkish Defense Minister Ismet Yilmaz said, reported the daily Milliyet.

The first two of the military aircraft will be delivered by 2015, he said. The decision to order two F-35s was made last month.

The multi-purpose F-35 fighter jets are being produced by the U.S.-based arms producer Lockheed Martin. In 1999 Turkey became a member of an international F-35 consortium that includes Britain, Italy, the Netherlands, Canada, Australia, Norway and Denmark.

The statement indicates that Turkey is insisting on proceeding with its plan to purchase 100 F-35s even as many other partner countries, including the United States, have backtracked on their purchase plans due to delays and incremental costs.

The Pentagon postponed the purchase of 139 F-35 fighter jets for five years, while Britain said the decision regarding the number of F-35s that the country would buy would be delayed until 2015. Italy last week said its F-35 orders would be scaled down by 30 percent.

The U.S. government plans to manufacture 2,443 F-35 fighter jets, according to a statement made to Turkey in 2012, Yilmaz said. “Purchase orders in the upcoming years regarding the [F-35 military aircraft] will be subsequently assessed depending upon the negotiations.”

Turkey has spent $315 million so far on three phases of the development of the F-35 fighter jets that the country is producing as part of the partnership, Yılmaz said.

Turkey is too belligerent, too Islamic, too threaturous and too big for its britches. Turkey does not need more weapons, Turkey needs to be brocken up into four or five countries. Iran and Azerbaijian too. They all need to be brocken uo into a dozen ethnic states, all hooked on American foreign aid.

The basic reason of turkeys problem is 70% of the country is illiterate, that is why they maintain their peasant minded, herdsman mentality; making a damn fool of themselves all over the world. When the mongols left Anatolya, they left behind the cowards, criminals, deserters, mal contents. That is the nucleus of modern day turkeyBeing belligerent, only if the adversary is twenty times smaller, unarmed women, children and old people…i.e. Armenian Genocide.

The Turks sell weapons to other countries now so they cover the cost of new weapon purchases that way.
Turkey does have a good Defense industry, doubt they even see Armenia as competition.

The President of Stratfor which is a private intelligence forcasting agency stated that Turkey will be a threat to the United States in 40-50 years and the US government is blind to this fact. Turkey is ruled by an Islamofacist cult of bloodthirsty neo-ottomanists who want to reestablish the Otttoman Empire. These Turks are simply insane and the United States needs to wake up. The US was in bed with the Islamists during the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan and it caused 9/11 and the current messy war in Afghanistan which is America’s second Vietnam. When will this fetish for Turkey end?

Armenia can greatly improve relations with the US by allowing US aircraft to use Armenian airbases as refueling facilities on their transit to Afghanistan. Furthermore Armenia can build ammunition and other small arms for the US military in Afghanistan since the transportation will be short. The Azeris got a contract but lost it when they manufactured deficient ammunition.
