YEREVAN (ARF Press Office)—Leaders of the Armenian Revolutionary Federation Supreme Council of Armenia and the Prosperous Armenia Party met Saturday to discuss common concerns regarding the upcoming presidential elections set for February.
Prosperous Armenia’s Parliamentary faction secretary Naira Zohrabyan was joined by fellow member of Parliament Vartan Oskanian at the ARF’s Nigol Aghbalian Center. The ARF was represented at the meeting by Supreme Council of Armenia member Armen Rustamian and Arsen Hambartsumian.
On Thursday, the ARF announced its seven-point platform for the upcoming elections. The document is a road map toward changing Armenia’s system of governance from a presidential to a parliamentarian one.
Calling the meeting promising, ARF’s Rustamian said that the opportunity was created to cooperate on the basic principles of the platform that the party presented Thursday.
Rustamian also added that the two parties appraisal of the current situation in Armenia, as well as the need for drastic electoral reforms was similar.
“During the meeting, we found that it is important to do everything necessary to enhance the ideas that unite us and then we will talk about the tactical steps that we have to take,” said Rustamian.
“The implementation of these steps [highlighted in the platform] in a short period of time can lead us to the kind of country that we all dream of,” said Rustamian adding that the current phase is a crucial and if it garners enough public support, its consideration would be inevitable.
“The door is open to everyone. The larger the consolidation around our platform, the bigger the prospect to resolve the issues” added Rustamian.
