NEW YORK—The Children of Armenia Fund (COAF), a nonprofit organization committed to improving the lives of children in rural Armenia, held its Fourth Annual Summer Soiree on Tuesday, June 24, at the trendy PH-D Rooftop Lounge of the Dream Hotel Downtown in New York City. Close to 300 COAF friends and supporters gathered to celebrate the organization’s recent accomplishments and raise funds for the renovation of a school auditorium in the village of Aragatsavan located in the Aragatsotn region of Armenia.

The school’s auditorium is currently in a dilapidated state with most of the 350 schoolchildren being forced to assemble in the school’s hallways for special events and recitals. Having received numerous appeals from the children of Aragatsavan, COAF will now begin the renovation process of the auditorium and provide them with a safe and comfortable platform where they can freely express themselves and stage various performances, as well as school assemblies.

COAF Founder and Chairman Dr. Garo H. Armen welcomed guests and addressed the important role Diasporans play in contributing toward the overall progress and development of the new generation in Armenia. COAF Board Member Michael Aram spoke of his recent trip to Armenia and how inspired he was during a gathering with teenagers in the village of Karakert. Aram recalled how sitting on the ground and engaging with the students and answering their various questions was the highlight of his visit last month. Final remarks were made by Haig Boyadjian, head of marketing from the COAF office in Yerevan. Boyadjian touched upon his experience as an Armenian-American living in Armenia for three years and the critical work he is engaged in with beneficiary children living in COAF-sponsored villages.

The evening was graciously sponsored by Michael Aram, Fancy Face Photobooth, The Squeeze, Cupcakes by Sonia, Baked by Melissa, Gourmet Dourmé and Armoir Fashion.

The school auditorium in Aragatsavan will be renovated over the summer and ready for use when the children are back from vacation in the fall. Thus far, COAF has built a technology-enhanced Creativity Lab at the school in Aragatsavan (sponsored by Ameriabank). A playground will also be built this summer. A recent joint campaign with ONEArmenia will also feature a brand new cafeteria and dental station (brushodrome) at the school in September.
