Sarkisian Congratulates Erdogan on Presidential Victory

Left: Armenian President Serzh Sarkisian. Right: Recep Tayyip Erdogan celebrates his presidential election victory in Ankara

YEREVAN—Armenia’s President Serzh Sarkisian congratulated Turkey’s Recept Tayyip Erdogan on his recent victory in the Turkish presidential elections, the President’s press office reported.

“I congratulate you on your election as President of the Republic of Turkey. I wish good health to you and prosperity and progress to the Turkish people,” Sarkisian’s congratulatory remarks said.

“Taking the office of President of the Republic of Turkey, you, undoubtedly, have the possibility to make a contribution to the fulfillment of the bilateral agreements, which we have reached, without any preconditions,” Sarkisian said about the yet-unratified Turkish-Armenian protocols.

Turkey continues to announce about the absence of intention to open the borders with Armenia on official level. As “Armenpress” reports, the Turkish President’s top advisor for Foreign Policy Affairs, Ambassador Gurcan Turkoglu informed Azerbaijani “APA” news agency that rumors about opening Armenian-Turkish border in September are groundless.

Among other things, Gurcan Turkoglu underscored: “The road from Igdir to Alican customs post on the border with Armenia has been paved with asphalt not for the opening of the border, but for free movement of the people in the region.”

Stop this nonsense about opening borders. The borders need to be closed from Turks on both sides.

This guy (Sarkisyan) has no sense of shame? Only a few days ago Erdogan said that being Armenian is something ugly.

    Shame on you, Sarkisyan.

Why would Serzh Sarkisian stoop so low and drag our names to mud. Who the hell is Erdogan that he is congratulating that crazy turk, does Serzh want him to finish what the young turks did not?
I can not believe the degree of his stupidity!!!!
Does Serzh has any job other than congratulating this and that, right and left?
I feel so sorry for us because of the big harm that this illigitimate government of highway robbers will cause our fragile country.

You guys need to stop this finger pointing and understand how politics and how things work in the real world. Sarkisan’s job requires finesse and it is a matter of professionalism and common courtesy to congratulate your neighbor on winning the elections especially if it’s the first presidential election.
I expect nothing less then Erdogan returning the phone call when things are reversed.
Yes I’m Turk and well aware of everything.

I have to add that surname ‘Turkoglu’ would have rustled some jimmies since I know you guys like to make fun of ‘Oglu’ and now it comes with ‘Turk’ :)

I hope the best for both our countries, borders open for business and other things.
Closing the border hurts both sides and solves nothing.
Peoples have always used trade to form relationships.
