ANKARA—“A full and frank acknowledgement of the facts behind the horrible events and this terrible set of massacres and tragedies that occurred is in the interest of both Turkey and Armenia,” newly appointed US Ambassador to Turkey John Bass said in an interview with the Hurriyet Daily News.
Asked whether the US is going to recognize the Armenian Genocide in 2015, the Ambassador said: “What I would say about that today is that we have been quite clear as a government about our views on the circumstances and the events that transpired in this horrible tragedy beginning in 1915, as you see from our statements this past year on Armenian Remembrance Day and in prior years.”
“We continue to believe that a full and frank acknowledgement of the facts behind those horrible events and this terrible set of massacres and tragedies that occurred is in the interest of both Turkey and Armenia, and important to building the kind of the relationship going forward between the two countries that we believe is in the interest of both countries and in the end, our shared interest with Turkey and building and strengthening stability in this region,” Ambassador Bass said.
That would be a worthwhile start, but the “events” go beyond 1915 and the players involved go beyond Turkey and Armenia.
That would be a worthwhile start, but the “events” go beyond 1915 and the players involved go beyond Turkey and Armenia. Further, the same attitudes continue to the present day, and by all of the parties involved, now including Israel as well as the West. Will any own up? Let us see.
Your chewing gum has lost its taste MR.Ambassador !!!!!
Oh really. The same verbal manuvering over and over again. God help humanity.
There’s NO substitute to acknowledgment of the Genocide. Armenians waited 100 years, they can wait until the world recognizes it. NO genocide perpetrator admit his guilt, it is up to the world to recognizes a Genocide and condemn it, POL POT never admitted his perpetrating of Genocide.
So “aknowledge” the Genocide and quit coddling dead-beat, duplicitous “allies” like the Turks. Read the accounts of the Genocide from our own consular officials at that time and recognize the facts just as Pres. Obama said he would do. Let the “chips fall” and stop mimicking the Turks by denying the truth and damaging American prestige. The Erdogan Govt. is no friend to America. Stand-up to it and stop degrading our country by acting like their patsy, stoodge and “enabler”. Stop lowering our country to their insecure and denialist level-we can handle the truth, they’re the ones with the problem. We are not Turks. We recognize our faults of slavery (and the slow-motion genocide of our own native peoples). Don’t make us choose between being “good Americans” by associating us with amoral Turks and repressive oil fiefdoms (and their terrorist proxies)-or being Armenians because most of us will stand with our own brethren. We will not simply “go along just to get along”, any longer. You need to choose your “friends” more carefully. It’s your problem, not ours. We need more than just your “concern”, we need justice.
