US-Armenia Relations Unchanged Despite EEU Membership, Says State Dept.

U.S. State Department spokeswoman Jen Psaki

WASHINGTON (Sputnik)—Washington’s collaboration with Yerevan will continue after Armenia officially becomes a member of the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU), the US State Department’s Spokeswoman Jen Psaki has said.

“The United Sates will continue to work with Armenia to support democratic and economic reforms and preserve the progress made through the US-Armenia relationship,” Psaki said at a press briefing Thursday.

The spokesperson emphasized that all countries have the right to choose their own path of economic integration and development in accordance with their national interests.

“No country has the right to determine the political and economic orientation of another country, nor decide which alliances and trade agreements it can join,” Psaki stressed.

The Russian State Duma (lower house of parliament) ratified the treaty on Armenia’s joining the EEU on Dec. 10. Yerevan is expected to officially join the union in January, 2015, when the ratification procedures are finished. The republics of Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan have also expressed interest in joining the organization.

This is the least the West can do to salvage what little independence left for Armenia. We are now absolutely and total tied to the misfortunes of Mother Russia and her authoritarian rule. Armenia’s independence will diminish slowly but surely as the bear clutches her fangs deeper and deeper. Next will come the abolishment of national symbols including the national currency. Introduction of a single currency and a common passport for EEU members will undoubtedly come next. Followed by a single fighting force that enforces a common foreign policy. This will most likely later culminate with open borders and a single body to represent all member states at the UN. Some might describe this scenario similar to the EU and NATO, but unlike them, we are dealing with a totalitarian ruler who is void of any notion concerning democracy, justice and the rule of law. It is a regime that ignores all international norms and conventions regarding its neighbor’s territorial rights, privileges and self determination.

The mere 20 year independence was all but a mirage. It was just a lull that allowed the bear to gather her strength. The true intentions of Mother Russia is taking shape before our eyes….and we can’t do anything about it.

How about for a change to write a comment without attacking Mother Russia?
