AVILA BEACH, Calif.—Special districts in San Luis Obispo County and across the state recognize Assembly Member Katcho Achadjian as the 2014 Legislator of the Year. Assembly Member Achadjian was selected because of his non-partisan spirit, support of local control, and close work with the local service specialists responsible for delivering water, fire protection, parks, healthcare and other essential services.
The recognition is awarded by the California Special Districts Association (CSDA), and was presented at a meeting Friday of the San Luis Obispo County Chapter of CSDA.
“During his tenure as chair of the Assembly Local Government Committee, Assembly Member Achadjian regularly proclaimed the importance of local control in addressing community needs,” stated CSDA CEO Neil McCormick.
Assembly Member Achadjian is recognized for fostering close relationships with the special district officials in his Assembly District in order to find solutions that empower communities to find answers to meet local needs.
“As a former County Supervisor, I understand firsthand that the needs of each county can vary greatly. Working with CSDA has been a key component in addressing the current issues that are affecting local governments and it has been an excellent experience working with them. I am honored to receive this award and I look forward to collaborating with the organization in the future,” stated Assembly Member Achadjian.
“Assembly Member Achadjian has clearly demonstrated his knowledge and respect of the special district governance structure,” said Marshall Ochylski, president of the San Luis Obispo County Chapter of CSDA.
CSDA and special districts across the state invite state legislative representatives and the public to get to know the special district leaders who provide essential services to local communities.
California’s communities are served by just over 2,000 independent special districts. These local governments are led by a board of directors that are elected or appointed to a fixed term to serve diverse communities and regions throughout the state.
I am so happy Katcho is being recognized. He is quite a guy! We are so lucky to have him represent our Armenian community in Sacramento!
