ARF Delegation Meets with Sheriff Jim McDonnell

MONTEREY PARK—Newly elected Los Angeles County Sheriff Jim McDonnell met with members of the Armenian Revolutionary Federation Central Committee, Levon Kirakosian, Esq. and Mardig Gaboudian accompanied with Monteballo Mayor Jack Hadjinian on Friday, March 27, at the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Headquarters.

Throughout his election campaign,. Sherriff McDonnell had numerous meetings with representatives of the Armenian-American community and had expressed himself to be a friend of the Armenian community.

During the meeting on Friday numerous issues of mutual concern were discussed, with McDonnell reieterating his commitment to work with the Armenian community and assuring that the Sheriff’s department is sensitive to the needs of the Armenian community.

He stated that the Sheriff’s Department would initiate a program where guest educators from the Armenian community will be invited to lecture the Sheriff’s department on the social and historic aspects of the Armenian community.

The events surrounding the Centennial of the Armenian Genocide on April 24 were of foremost interest to Sheriff McDonnell. He stated that although he has not determined yet what event he would be attending however he plans on attending the commemoration events. The meeting concluded with promises of unfettered access with the Sheriff and to periodically continue to have similar meetings with representatives of the ARF.
