IZMIR, Turkey—A scheduled conference devoted to the denial of the Armenian Genocide has angered several Turkish lawyers from Izmir, who have responded by issuing an apology for Armenians over the Armenian Genocide.
The local Izmir branch of the Association of Modern Lawyers has issued a statement apologizing to Armenians over the Armenian Genocide perpetrated by the Ottoman Turkish government during the First World War.
The association says that an alliance of lawyers responsible for establishing justice in Turkey is sure that what happened in the Ottoman Empire from 1915 to 1923 was a crime of Genocide committed under the pretext of deportation.
The authors of the statement noted that among the Armenians arrested and exiled to death in 1915 were also lawyers and advocates.
“We, as lawyers from Izmir, will not allow that the crimes and the genocide committed against the Armenians be consigned to oblivion. We apologize to the Armenian people on behalf of the organization we are members of,” reads the statement.
Turkey is coming apart at the seams. We’ll have to wait and see how this eventually plays out. No doubt, sides will be chosen and the mud swinging will begin. To what extent and to what end remains to be seen, but one thing is for sure, the genie is out of the bottle.
Hats off to these lawyers, they’ll be famous as the other great thing synonymous with their city…Izmir Kofte
Inspiring and hopeful!
At last few honest lawyers from Izmir…
United and moved
Confessing the truth of the genocide…
Apologizing…Yes…
Without having fear from Sultan Erdogan
Not fearing of his scimitars
To cut their tongues…

I thank the Turkish lawyers who signed this statement for their honesty and courage.
I say they have a lot of courage. I am grateful for their stand and I fear for them from their own extremists.
There are memorials in Turkish cities that honor the Turks killed by Arnenians and Turkish youngsters grow up believing these falsehoods. A pamphlet I read in the huge Igdir memorial actually stated that Armenians who were deported were given homes comparable to the ones they left behind and these Turkish kids grow up thinking this is true. The majority of Turks feel the word Armenian is “dirty.”
So I ca
Bravo and Thank you.
Most impressing – I could hardly believe it. So brave!
