MOSCOW (Arminfo) — Vladimir Zhirinovsky, the leader of the Liberal Democratic Party of Russia, stated that little will remain of Turkey if various countries including Armenia claim their territorial lands back.
“In response to Turkey’s refusal to recognize Crimea’s reunion with Russia, we should recognize the Turkish Kurdistan as an independent state and demand Turkey to return the lands of Western Armenia. If Greece, Bulgaria and other countries having territorial claims to Turkey demand their lands back, little will remain of Turkey,” Zhirinovsky, said at the Russian State Duma.
On February 15, Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said his country considers Crimea as part of Ukraine saying “by supporting Armenia, Russia threatens the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan.”
“Such statements by Davutoglu, at least, underline his ignorance. Actually, he does not know that Russia received Crimea after defeating Turkey and making the Kucuk Kaynarca Peace Treaty. Ukraine bears no relation to that treaty,” the politician said.
Signed in 1774 between the Russian Empire and Ottoman Empire the Treaty of Kucuk Kaynarca confirmed the territorial victories of Russia endorsed in the previous Belgrade Peace Treaty dating back to 1739, recognizing the independence of the Crimean khanate from Turkey. In 1783, Ekaterina II annulled the points concerning the independence of Crimea and issued a decree on accession of Crimean peninsula, Taman Island and Kuban region to the Russian Empire.
On April 24, 2015, the Armenians worldwide commemorated the Centennial of the Armenian Genocide in Western Armenia. Turkey still denies the genocide of 1.5 million Armenians in 1915- 1923. The Armenian Genocide has been recognized by most of the United States of America as well as by 23 countries, Vatican, European Parliament, World Church Council, and other authoritative organizations

return west Armenia to Western Armenians or Russia?
Let’s get it out of Turkish hands, and we’ll worry about to where…
Such comments are welcome, of course. But they will be interpreted as “fighting words” to psychopathic, belligerent Turkey. We must be prepared for an invasion of Armenia or Artsakh at any time, particularly as tensions rise between Turkey & Russia in Syria.
Too bad Zhirinovsky did not refer to Stalin’s “gifting” of Armenian Artsakh to Azerbaijan.
Yes, we (the Armenians) agree!
But, we also question the delay in recognizing the restoration of the Armenian Homeland by Russia who may try to turn our Motherland to another battle ground for their greed and selfish interests.
Why just a few years ago the Russian President celebrated the anniversary of the Moscow Treaty with his Turkish (Islamist) counterpart?
After a genocide by the Turks (and the Kurds) and backstabbing by Russian communists, I hope that the Armenian politicians (this time around) will play their cards with much care for the sake of preserving the nation.
Long Live Vladimir Zhirinovsky, Hurraaaah
If antagonized, Turkey might shut down Bosporus and Dardanelles straits to Russian shiping and entrap Russia’s navy in the Black Sea! Mr. Zhirinovsky should be careful! Extreme rhetoric does not solve any problems. In fact, it might make Nagorno Karabakh situation worst!
Oh come on! Both of us know that Bosphorus and Dardanelles would be opened in a couple of hours 😉
Western Armenia, can not be annexed with Armenia.
interesting how people are only putting their first name for their comments. You plan on living like this even after 100 years……please no one is forcing you to write comments …that itself is the worse comment against your community.
everyone should encourage this turkey sucks
Long live Armenia. Long live Russia. I salute you Mr. Zhirinovsky. Urrrrraaaaaa. The time has almost come that our lands will be liberated. Just as past history has shown backstabbers and traitors such as some of the commenters here will be our only obstacle in achieving LIBERATED ARMENIA.
