TEHRAN – Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani on Wednesday called his Armenian and Azerbaijani counterparts to urge them “to show restraint” and respect the provisions of the cease-fire in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran is saddened over loss of military and civilian lives in the two neighboring and friendly countries,” Rouhani told Azeri President Ilham Aliyev and Serzh Sarkisian, reported Tehran Times.

Rouhani also said that he was ready to use all his efforts “for a peaceful resolution of differences between the two neighboring and friendly countries through political dialogue.”

Resumption of clashes will not be in the interest of all regional countries, especially the republics of Azerbaijan and Armenia, the Iranian president remarked.

“The region is already facing great crises and terrorists and their supporters are always seeking to spread the crises to the entire region. In such condition further tension and class can prepare the situation for their intention,” the Iranian leader explained.

The Armenian presidential press service reported on Wednesday that during the telephone conversation, Sarkisian briefed Rouhani about Azerbaijan’s role in the escalation of violence in the region, placing special emphasis on Azerbaijan targeting civilians and using such savage violence that is characteristic of international terrorist organizations.

Mr President Rouhani , we appreciate the construtive role of Iran in the region . Azerbaijan has to stop violating the cease fire agreement of 1994 with the Republic of NK as it had never honored it and it is the azeris who must show restraint while the Armenians are on self defense position,
