Rupen Janbazian Named Editor of the Armenian Weekly

WATERTOWN, Mass.—Armenian Weekly contributor Rupen Janbazian will assume the editorship of the newspaper, the Hairenik Association announced.

Janbazian will take on responsibilities of editor immediately. Former editor Nanore Barsoumian announced her resignation in July.

Janbazian has been a contributor to the Armenian Weekly since 2013. His writings primarily focus on politics, human rights, community, literature, and Armenian culture. He has reported from Armenia, Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh Republic), Turkey, Canada, the United States, and Western Armenia.

His writings have appeared in a number of publications including the Armenian Weekly, Asbarez, Hairenik, Aztag, Horizon, Torontohye, MediaMax, Hayern Aysor, Aparaj, Azad Or, Arevelk, Haytoug, and a number of other publications.

Since 2011, Janbazian has served as the co-editor of Ardziv Magazine. He is a graduate of the University of Toronto, where he completed a double major in history and Near and Middle Eastern civilizations. He has served on the local and national executives of the Armenian Youth Federation (AYF) of Canada and Hamazkayin Toronto, and served as the administrator of the Armenian National Committee (ANC) of Toronto.

Janbazian also taught Armenian History and Creative Writing at the ARS Armenian Private School of Toronto, and has worked on several translations.

Dickran Khodanian will serve as the part-time assistant editor of the newspaper. Khodanian is a graduate student at Boston University studying History with an emphasis in Armenian History.

The management and editorial board of Asbarez congratulates Janbazian on his appointment, wishes him success in his endeavors and welcomes him to the rich and storied ARF press family.
