ENCINO–The Western Prelacy of Northern America is continuing the celebrations of 1700th Anniversary of Armenia’s adoption of Christianity as state religion. "Celebration and Art Exhibition" was held Friday–July 20–at the "Avetissian" hall of Ferahian school sponsored by Prelate Bishop Moushegh Mardirossian and organized by Holy Martyrs Armenian Apostolic Church.
Among the 500 participants was the Consul of Armenia Norayr Ghalumian.
Before the official opening of the ceremony–participants enjoyed the works of several Armenian artists including Sarkis Balmanukian–Pyuzand Meymarian–Zepyur Karamanoukian and Antranik Aghajanian. The exhibit was held at the "Avetissian" hall.
The ceremony was officially opened after a 40-person choir performed "Hayr Mer" conducted by Gomitas Keshishian and accompanied by Levon Abrahamian.
Mistress of Ceremonies Azaduhi Ghazarian welcomed the participants and highlighted the importance of religion for Armenia’s throughout the centuries.
The evening’s keynote speaker was World Council of Churches board member Dr. Rubina Peroomian–who outlined that the Armenian church has been the only institution to continuously serve the people in their religious and spiritual lives. In his remarks Bishop Mardirossian thanked the organizers and participants. "This evening was truly a spiritual inspiration for me. We shall continue to following in our predecessors’ footsteps in keeping our religious traditions," he concluded.
The evening was officially closed by the singing of "Cilicia," performed by the "Lusavorich" choir.
