YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–At the court session on September 14–witness Sirazik Hovsepian–former deputy chairman of the Ashtarak district executive committee–confirmed that the murder of the district executive committee chairman Hovhannes Sukiassian had been an ordered one. According to the witness–there was an opportunity to catch the assassin by means of blocking the roads but it was not done. The witness also described it as odd that no official body would offer condolences over the violent death of the district’s top official.
Hovsepian also confirmed that Sukiassian had been pressured to resign and if the latter would have complied with the authorities’ request he would probably have not been assassinated. He emphasized that the reason for demanding the resignation was that the ARF member Sukiassian had outdone his predecessor ANM representative Simon Grigorian in coming to power.
Witness Artur Knyazian said he saw a blue Vaz-2106 model car pursue Sukiassian’s official car.
The 80-year-old witness Grigor Jeberian said that he had heard the chief of the Armenian railroad department Hambartsum Galstian–his driver and passenger being gunned down with two burst of sub-machine-gun fire.
