VAN NUYS–Athletes–friends and fans packed the Birmingham High School campus Thursday–August 19. It was the opening day of the final weekend of games of the 24 annual Homenetmen Navasartian Games.
Thousands gathered to follow the final games of this popular tournament and to join in the celebrations of the four-day festival.
The Armenian youth sang and danced to renowned singer Aram Asadrian and his band. Even the long lines for mouth-watering food couldn’t stop the party.
Singer Karnig Sarkissian and his band then took the stage to perform Armenian patriotic and revolutionary songs–which were echoed by the proud and enthusiastic audience.
The Navasartian programs will continue through today and tomorrow. The sports championships will take place at Birmingham High School. On Saturday evening at 9 p.m. another dance will be held for the Armenian youth at the 94th Aero Squadron at the Van Nuys Airport. Admission is $15.
The Navasartian Games closing ceremonies will be held on Sunday at 4 p.m. on the high school campus–and the celebrations will continue until late hours.
The Navasartian Games had been postponed for forty days with the passing of His Holiness Karekin I–Catholicos of All Armenia’s.
