YEREVAN (Armenpress)–According to data released by Armstat–the overall profit of enterprises engaged in providing communication services in Armenia over the first half of the year totaled 18,030.8m drams (more than $30 million)–17,300.4m of these were gained from enterprises’ main activities.
According to the same source–the profit from services–provided for the population–totaled 6,724.7m drams ($12.7 million)–61.1 percent of these came from international and interstate telephone calls. 35.8 per cent came as rental fees and 1.7 percent as mail services. Incidentally–the profit from mail transports totaled 483.9 million drams ($913,000)–116 million 800,00 ($220,000) of which fall to the population.
Compared to the first half of 1999–the number of letters and packages sent in the first six months of this year increased by 69.2 per cent. The profit from telegraphic services totaled 42.2m drams ($79,000)]–20.2m ($38,000) of which fall to the population. The number of telegrams in January-June 2000 fell by 10 per cent in comparison to last year’s indicator. Telephone conversations with CIS countries fell by 16 percent.
