YEREVAN (Lragir–Noyan Tapan)-According to a spokesperson for Armenia’s Ministry of Communications–Noune Ohanian– Armenia participated in two international projects on the development of telephone communications–Trans-Asia-Europe and BSFOCS-a fiber optic line connecting the cities of Poti– Odessa and Varna.
The TAE program will establish direct telephone communications with all Asian republics of the former USSR along with China and Iran. A fiber optic line will be laid out connecting Yerevan–through Meghri–to Marand–Iran. The construction of the line will be financed by the Greek OTF company.
The BSFOCS program will help to improve telephone communications with Russia–Ukraine–Belarus–Moldova–the Baltic states and Eastern Europe.
Ohanian said that the Ministry of Communications is currently in negotiations with the Danish Grestnordic company to help finance the construction.
