Construction of Cargo Terminal Under Way

YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan) — The construction of the cargo terminal of Yerevan’s Zvartnots airport is under way. Work on the terminal’s foundation–which began in December–will last until March. The construction of the terminal building will follow. Construction is carried out by the American Bill Harbert company–which is experienced in working in Armenia.

Deputy Chief of the Office for Implementation of the Project Karen Mkhitarian reported that the credit allocated by the European Bank totals $22.8 million–of which $15.4 million are earmarked for construction of the cargo terminal. The credit should be repaid in 2008. Under the contract Bill Harbert must put the terminal into operation in 365 days. In case of breaking the indicated term–the company will have to pay a daily fine of $7,000.

For the purpose of training local specialists in management of cargo service technologies the terminal will be operated by a Dutch "Cargo Service Center" for one year.
