YEREVAN (Azg–Fact)–The US Embassy in Armenia issued a statement regarding the derogatory and offensive remarks made by former interior minister and current Yerevan Mayor Vano Siradeghian and Defense Minister Vazgen Sargsian during a private post-presidential election party in October.
In response to the statemen’s and profanity directed at the US and Europe–the US Embassy in Yerevan said–"We understand that these declarations were made during a private meeting. We will let the government of Armenia comment on what was said there. The United States and Europe have been helping Armenia on the way from the totalitarian state to the creation of an open democratic society during the difficult stage of switching to free-market relations."
"We are proud of the material and moral support–which facilitated the achievemen’s of this country [Armenia]. Armenia may continue to rely on our continued aid. We’ll provide no further commen’s in this regard," the US statement concluded.
Similar commen’s from the British Embassy in Armenia were also made–according to Azg daily.
Commenting on the US statement–Levon Ter-Petrosyan’s spokesperson Levon Zourabian told Fact news agency–"I am not interested whether a videotape [of the party] exists or not–as I am not interested in the private life of others at all."
Zourabian was once again quick to point the finger at the opposition–saying "The opposition’s peeping through the keyhole is disgusting."
