YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)Chairman of the Russian State Duma–Gennady Selezhnev–met with a delegation of Armenian parliamentarians headed by Deputy Parliament Speaker Ara Sahakian.
Selezhnev said the meeting took place on the eve of Parliament Speaker Babken Ararktsian’s visit to Moscow and a meeting of representatives from the Commonwealth of Independent States.
Sahakian said that the government and parliament of Armenia aspired to strengthen relations with Russia in the spirit of the signed agreemen’s. According to him–despite the fact that Russian-Armenian agreemen’s have not yet been ratified by the State Duma–they are already operating.
According to Sahakian the location of the Russian military bases in Armenia is of geopolitical interest to both Russia and Armenia–and said his country also appreciated Russia’s role in the settlement of the Karabakh conflict.
