Communists Stage Rally

YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–"No Anti-national Social-Economic Policy! Our Salvation is with Socialism! Always with the Russian People! We Demand Referendum on Armenia’s Joining the Union of Belarus and Russia!" were some of the slogans carried Thursday by communists of Armenia–who staged a rally in Yerevan in support of the Pan-Russian movemen’s launched Thursday in several cities in Russia. Addressing the rally–Sergey Badalian–Leader of the Armenian Communist Party and member of the National Assembly of Armenia–said–"We are unequivocally against the social-economic policy being pursued by the current authorities over the last six years." He demanded that the privatization–which has turned into the actual plundering of the national wealth–be stopped–whereas the culprits who "pursue this criminal line" be punished. He demanded that the right to labor–education–health care and all social benefits which the population enjoyed for 70 years be returned to the people of Armenia. "Our only salvation is the return to socialism. The power must be given to the people and people’s soviet," Badalian said. He urged the people to vote for Armenia’s joining the Union of Belarus and Russia–saying that this may be the only salvation for the Armenian people. Member of the Social-Democratic Party of Armenia Rouben Sedrakian stressed that the party he represents supports the deman’s set by communists as they–like all the parties of socialist orientation– defend the people’s interests. "Economic genocide is what the government of Armenia brings to the population of Armenia. More than one million Armenia’s have left the country and Levon Ter-Petrosyan will be held responsible for the genocide of the Armenian people," Sedrakian emphasized. All the speakers urged the participants of the rally to unite "against the criminal policy of the Armenian authorities and for the return of socialism."
