Fifth Anniversary of Shoushi Liberation Marked

YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–The fifth anniversary of the liberation of Shoushi–Karabakh’s historical center which was populated by Azeris after a massacre of Armenia’s of the city in 1928 will be marked Friday.

At the onset of the Karabakh liberation struggle Azeri forces began shelling Stepanakert and neighboring villages from Shushi. Shushi’s liberation was one of the most decisive combat operations in the liberation war.

All infrastructures has been restored in Shushi. Two schools and two Armenian churches have been rebuilt in Shoushi.

The Kazanchetsots church–which had been used as a depository of arms and ammunition before the liberation–was fully restored and is now the home of the Karabakh Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church.

Private businesses are gradually developing in the city but unemployment is still very prevalent.
