YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–Family members of defendants in the "September 25" and "Trial of 31," as well as the "Dro" and other political cases staged a protest demonstration in Yerevan’s Republic Square.
The demonstrators demand the release of political prisoners–whose number now totals 71. "No one is guaranteed–that tomorrow anyone will appear in prison," a message of the demonstrators read.
"All those who fought for Karabakh have either died or have been placed in prisons. The Prosecutor’s Office has deprived the people of their freedom and we demand justice from the Supreme Court of Armenia," Margarita Tananian–the spouse of Kim Balayan–arrested in connection with the "September 25" case told reporters.
Varduhi Ishkhanian–wife of National Democratic Union leader Vazgen Manoukian regretted that the fact of existence of political prisoners in Armenia does not cause any public uprising. She said the reason was that the people have lost their trust in justice.
On May 15 relatives of political prisoners are going to stage a demonstration near the building Prosecutor General’ residence.
