Lisbon Summit Deemed Negative for Peace Process

STEPANEKERT (Noyan Tapan)–In the wake of a visit by the Minsk Group delegation–Karabakh Acting President Leonard Petrossian in a meeing with Deputy Speaker of the British Parliament’s House of Lords–Baroness Cox and members of a delegation of Christian Solidarity International explained–"The statement by the acting OSCE Chairman at the Lisbon summit last December–which pre-determines Karabakh’s status–had a negative impact on the negotiations–because it led to the toughening of Azerbaijan’s stance."

The Karabakh leader noted that the problem should be solved based on the principle of self-determination and legitimization of all steps taken by Karabakh on separating from Azerbaijan.

From these positions–which meet the vital interests of the Karabakh people–the Karabakh side is going to speak at the negotiations–Petrossian said.

Baroness Cox presented the CSI’s work on assistance to Karabakh and further plans of the organization.
