US Minsk Group Co Chairman Replaced

YEREVAN (Azg)–According to a Radio Liberty report the US co-chairman of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe’s Minsk Group Joseph Presel was recently replaced by veteran diplomat Lynn Pasco.

Pasco will become the chief US negotiator on the Karabakh conflict and will also serve as the US representative on the Minsk Group Troika.

The State Department did not make any official declarations about the new assignment. Presel represented the US in issues related to the Karabakh conflict during the past three years. Pasco has worked in the US Embassy in Moscow and is fluent in Russian. He also served in Beijing and Taiwan–as well as in the Asian department for the State Department.

Pasco arrived in Armenia Thursday along with his Russian and French counterparts Yuli Yukalov and Georges Vogier for talks on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.

The group was scheduled to visit the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic Friday.
