Third “Sept. 25″ Trial Investigation Concludes

YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–The judicial investigation regarding the "September 25" case came to an end Monday with the board refusing to accept the petitions by the defense to subpoena leaders of the opposition to court and to view video materials on the "September 25" events as evidence.

The refusal to involve opposition leaders as witnesses was explained by the fact that Parliament Members Vazgen Manoukian–Shavarsh Kocharian–Arshak Sadoyan–Rouben Hakobian–David Vardanian and Seyran Avagian–who were charged with organization of mass disturbances–could not be questioned as witnesses because their rights would be violated.

Under Article 42 of Armenia’s Constitution–a person does not have to testify against himself–nor against his spouse or relatives.State Prosecutor Radik Grigorian is expected to give his closing argument on Thursday.
