Conflict Resolution Conference in Stepanakert Concludes

STEPANAKERT (ArmenPress)–A conference of Armenian political parties and public organizations–put together by Armenian intellectuals and the government of Nagorno-Karabakh–took place in Stepanakert July 6 to 7.

Greeting the participating political and public figures–Acting President of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic Leonard Petrossian stressed that the Karabakh issue–as a national issue–deman’s the unity of Armenian political forces. He emphasized the importance of conflict resolution through joint effort.

The conference hosted a series of discussions particularly in support of the statehood of Nagorno-Karabakh. The direction of Armenian political party and public organization activity was also addressed. Participants pointed out that the interests and rights of the Armenia’s of Karabakh remain pivotal. They also mentioned that any resolution would necessitate national accord.

Conference participants ratified the Stepanakert Declaration–which among other conditions–deman’s that the resolution of the conflict at hand correspond with international standards. Participants appeal to Armenian and Diasporan political parties to accept the mentioned document–and to promote it for a two week period.

According to Noyan Tapan the Armenian National Movement–the Democratic League of Armenia and Shamiram women’s party did not participate in the conference. When reached by media representatives–Ter Husik Lazarian–ANM chairperson–had no comment on the party’s absence at the conference.
