Minister Congratulates Homenetmen on International Membership

YEREVAN–Armenia’s Minister of culture–athletics and youth affairs Armen Smbatian sent a letter to the Homenetmen Central Executive congratulating the organization for its efforts in registering the Armenian National Scouting Organization (Homenetmen of Armenia) as Armenia’s official scouting organization within the International Scouting Movement.

The ANSO became a member of the ISM in April making Armenia part of the 144-nation federation.

Last month–Armenia’s Prime Minister Robert Kocharian met with representatives of Armenia’s youth organizations–including the chairman of the ANSO Central Executive Harutiun Harutiunian–who presented the prime minister with a certificate from the ISM officially recognizing the ANSO as Armenia’s national scouting organization in the international body.

During the meeting–Harutiunian–who also presented Kocharian with a scouting momento–briefed the prime minister on the organization’s activities and its long and short term goals and projects.

The two also discussed issues regarding homeland-Diaspora cooperation–during which the prime minister stressed the importance of improving ties with the Diaspora.

Below is the English translation of Smbatian’s letter to the Homenetmen Central Executive:

Honorable Central Executive:

Please accept my congratulations on the Armenia’s National Scouting Organization’s membership in the International Scouting Movement.

Your positive efforts in creating a real scouting movement in Armenia are indisputable.

I am confident that this unique opportunity will further enhance the strengthening of Armenia-Diaspora relation–and your decision to hold the Homenetmen Sixth World Jamboree in Armenia in 1988–once again–highlights the importance of Armenia-Diaspora Relations.

Best Wishes,

A. Smbatian Minister of Culture–Athletics and Youth Affairs
