Leonard Petrossian Comments Armenian American Political Activism

Honorable Chairman and Dear Compatriots, I thank you for your July 27th letter where you describe the protest activities undertaken by your organization in conjunction with other Armenian-American community organizations against Azerbaijani President Gaidar Aliyev’s visit to the United States.

We immensely appreciate the efforts of our compatriots living in the United States in presenting the full picture of the struggle of the people of Nagorno Karabakh to the freedom-loving people of America.

We are confident that the American people–unlike those who operate under the auspices of oil interests–will stand in support of the just struggle for freedom and the right to self determination of the people of Nagorno Karabakh–since the right to self-determination is an everlasting value cherished by the American people as well as the Armenian people.

We urge you to increase your efforts in exposing Aliyev’s policies directed against the Armenian people.

Still today–Gaidar Aliyev attempts to single-mindedly carry out an evil program which was designed and implemented in the days of the Soviet Empire and whose aim was to annihilate the Armenia’s of Karabakh.

Again–let me assure you of our people’s fullest commitment to the struggle for the freedom and independence of Nagorno Karabakh.

We salute the proud people of America and ask that you continue your unceasing struggle for the freedom and independence of our homeland. Best Wishes, Leonard Petrossian Acting President Nagorno-Karabakh Republic
