US Churches Council Expresses Concern Over Aliyev Visit

YEREVAN (Armenpress)–Joan Brown Campbell–General Secretary of the National Council of United States churches–representing 33 various Christian churches and some 54 million parishioners–on the occasion of Gaidar Aliyev’s visit to America–has sent a letter to President Bill Clinton expressing the council’s concerns of various Christian leaders over the current situation of Karabakh Armenia’s.

In her letter–Campbell pointed out the oppression of the Christian population in Karabakh during Azeri rule–as well as remaining Christian population in Azerbaijan now.

The letter further expressed hope that the Azeri and US presidents will not use oil to curtail human rights and freedoms.

At the end of the letter–Joan Campbell points out the Council is ready to support the US government in human rights-oriented actions as they pertain to Karabakh and Armenia.
