Nairit Employees Demonstrate Demand Salary Payment

YEREVAN (Respublica Armenii/Noyan Tapan)–A group of workers at the largest Nairit nuclear power plant declared they will continue demonstrations of protest against the administration of the Nairit plant–for withholding their salaries for eight months.

Workers stressed that they only recently received their salaries for December of last year–and only a few received their wages for January. The plant continues to operate–mainly producing synthetic rubber (400-600 tons per month)–bleach–caustic soda–etc.

Leaders of the plant reported that the salaries are not being paid–because their products are not being sold. It is notable–though–that the products are not in the warehouses.

The monthly salary fund of the Nairit plant is only 30 to 35 million Armenian drams ($60,000 to-$70,000)–with average salaries of 13,000 to 15,000 drams.
